Speaking Out: Recalling Women’s Aid in Scotland
Conducting, recording and transcribing oral history interviews for the project; assisting with the production of the project publication.

View image on TwitterThe Speaking Out project, a partnership between Scottish Women’s Aid, Glasgow Women’s Library, the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Gender History and Women’s History Scotland, marked 40 years of Women’s Aid in Scotland. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, outputs included recorded oral histories, an archive and a touring exhibition.

I joined the Speaking Out project as an Oral History Interviewer and conducted a number of interviews with women who had been involved with Scottish Women’s Aid over the years in and around Dundee, producing both recordings and interview transcripts for the project archive. I later contributed to the production of the project publication, choosing illustrative material from the collections at Glasgow Women’s Library, writing text and helping to decide on content, commenting on initial drafts and proofreading the final drafts before the publication went to press.
